Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I choose this method?
It uses a mixture of benign natural substances which are found naturally in the body and in the food chain. It is not aggressive and does not use any nasty chemicals. There are no known allergic or carcinogenic consequences of the TEPR treatment.
For many years lasers have been considered the best way to attempt tattoo removal. However, this takes an average of 10 and sometimes up to 20 sessions on an average sized tattoo.
Laser is expensive, painful, can leave a scar and only completely removes a small percentage of a limited range of tattoo pigments. Many laser patients and their treating clinicians are dissatisfied with the outcome. Clients who have previously had laser say that this is far less painful. It is also less painful on the pocket! In this instance it is not a case of the most expensive being the best.
Laser works by allowing your body's immune system to see and grab the pigment particles. These are then absorbed and hopefully eliminated but there are concerns about the chemicals in the tattoo dyes building up in the body. With our system the ink went in through the skin and comes back out the same way.
There is a risk of scarring with the TEPR system but we carry out a full scar risk assessment before commencing treatment.
Does it hurt?
It is similar to having a tattoo put on. As the machine goes on to the skin it feels sharp but after a few seconds it is quite bearable. I have told people who are worried that if they cannot put up with it I will stop and not charge them a penny. So far no-one has taken me up on that!
Can you treat all types of skin?
We do not recommend doing this treatment on black skin as there is a high risk of keloid scarring.
On asian and oriental skin there is a risk of the skin marking and in this case we recommend a patch test.
On white skin there can be a risk of scarring but a Scar Risk Assessment is carried out before treatment. We have the biggest success rate with white skin providing appropriate after care products are applied diligently.
Does this method work on Indian Ink tattoos?
Yes, it is very successful.
Will it definitely work?
As with anything involving the body there are always exceptions and no guarantees can be given. However, if it is not a cover up or had previous removal methods you will know after one treatment whether it is going to work. With cover-ups it may take longer although not always.
Will it leave a mark or scar?
All known methods of tattoo removal can leave a scar including the TEPR system and laser. If you adhere to the aftercare advice given you are likely to get a good result. However, you are likely to see some evidence of where the tattoo has been.
We know there is a small risk of scarring with our treatment. The risk of scarring depends upon how your body heals, the site on the body and the aftercare of the treated areas. The upper back, upper arms and the chest and cleavage are considered more 'at risk' sites. However, we have many success stories on these areas as they are the most popular areas to have a tattoo.
Am I suitable for treatment?
The initial consultation will determine this. You may have treatment if you are over 18, have had no previous ill effects from your tattoo and if you are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
What types of tattoo can be treated?
Previous treatment of your tattoo with laser may make it difficult to treat with this method, although not always.
All ages, styles and all but the largest sizes of tattoo can be removed.
Will it leave any pigment behind?
Tattoo ink is put into the deeper layers of the skin, known as the dermis. This is why the design is permanent. Often the ink goes right through the skin and sits in the fatty tissue underneath. If there is pigment in the fatty tissue we cannot get rid of it. Nor can laser. The only way to rid you of it would be to have a skin graft. There is no guarantee that all pigment can be removed.
